All motor vehicles in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, must obtain eco-stickers by the end of 2026. Authorities have set a strict deadline for the first time covering vehicle marking and city zoning. Up to one million vehicles will be subject to the requirements, Autostrada.uz reported.

Until recently, the system operated on a voluntary basis. Since January, drivers have been able to obtain a sticker via the my.gov.uz portal or at vehicle inspection centers run by the Road Traffic Safety Service.

What changes

The Ecology Committee has been tasked with dividing Tashkent into three types of zones by the end of 2026:

  •     red
  •     yellow
  •     green

Zone boundaries will be approved by kengashes — local representative councils — and marked with road signs and added to an electronic map.

Meanwhile in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty, is also introducing low-emission zones (LEZ) and restrictions for older vehicles from 2026, with a pilot project launched on March 10. Under the plan, only vehicles meeting emissions standards will be allowed to enter designated zones, while those exceeding limits will face restricted access.

Final boundaries have not yet been confirmed. The list of streets in the central part of the city will be determined by a separate decree, after which the low-emission zones are planned to be gradually expanded.
