Russia and Ukraine agree to Orthodox Easter ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that Ukraine agrees to the Orthodox Easter ceasefire after his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin announced one.
Zelenskyy wrote that Kyiv had repeatedly stated its readiness for «symmetrical steps.» He noted that Ukraine had also proposed a ceasefire for the Easter holidays and «will act accordingly.»
«People need an Easter free from threats and real movement toward peace, and Russia has a chance not to return to strikes after Easter as well,» Zelenskyy said.
Earlier, Putin announced an Easter ceasefire effective from April 11 until the end of April 12, 2026.
«Russian Federation Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Armed Forces – Commander of the Joint Group of Forces, Army General Valery Gerasimov, were instructed to cease combat activity on all fronts during this period. The troops are to be ready to counter any provocation or other aggressive actions by the enemy,» the Kremlin said in a statement.
Moscow assumed that Ukraine would follow suit with the Easter ceasefire.
Earlier, Kursiv.media reported on another ceasefire — U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran.
