A farewell ceremony for prominent Kazakh poet Mukhtar Shakhanov was held April 21 in Almaty.
Among those attending was Dimash Qudaibergen, who came to pay his respects at the city’s National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
During the ceremony, Dimash met with Shakhanov’s family, offering condolences and sharing in their grief.
His presence drew appreciation from attendees and social media users, with some commenting that «the true civic character of an artist is revealed in moments like these.»
Dimash had recently performed in Budapest. Following the concert, he returned to Kazakhstan and attended the farewell ceremony.
Residents of Almaty gathered to pay their final respects to the poet.
Shakhanov is scheduled to be laid to rest April 22 in his hometown in the Otrar district, southern Kazakhstan.
