An Almaty resident has launched a heartfelt challenge on Threads, offering to give away her school prom dress to 11th-grade students whose families cannot afford expensive outfits.

«Many of us have dresses hanging at home that were worn only once — for those same four to five hours… I want to give my dress to a graduate who cannot afford an outfit for that day. Let her also feel celebration, confidence and beauty,» she wrote.

Initiative spreads across cities and countries

The idea quickly gained traction, with women from other cities and even countries joining in. Many users from Belarus responded in the comments. Across Kazakhstan, cities such as Semey, Karaganda, Astana and Ust-Kamenogorsk have also rallied around the initiative.

Stories of kindness resonate

In the comments, users are sharing emotional stories of helping graduates in need.

«A couple of years ago, I bought a dress and shoes for an orphan girl from my village where I grew up. I’ve been living in the U.S. for many years, and I asked a classmate who worked at a school to find a girl who couldn’t afford a dress. We called her — she didn’t believe I was simply sending money for one. I told her: let this be a small miracle, so that she believes in the good in life,» one commenter wrote.
