The proposed «Golden Dome» missile defense system, introduced by President Donald Trump, is expected to cost about $1.2 trillion over two decades, according to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office. This is significantly higher than earlier projections of $175 billion, the BBC reported.

The system is designed to protect the U.S. from ballistic and cruise missile threats using advanced technologies across land, sea and space, including space-based sensors and interceptors. However, the CBO warns that the program faces major technical and strategic challenges.

Moreover, the system may not provide complete protection. Analysts note it could be vulnerable to a large-scale attack by advanced adversaries, potentially overwhelming its capabilities.
