The chairman of the Respublica political party, Aidarbek Khojanazarov, on the sidelines of the Mazhilis, shared details about the upcoming filming of Jackie Chan’s «Armour of God,» which will take place in Kazakhstan. He said the film will cost $50 million.

Part of the budget, Khojanazarov said, will go toward salaries for the Kazakhstani film crew, venue rentals, local actors, accommodation and transportation.

«That is, money will come [into Kazakhstan’s economy] from external investors investing in Jackie Chan,» he clarified.

Khojanazarov also added that Chan plans to shoot two more films in Kazakhstan.

The MP said that many foreign producers view Kazakhstan as a cost-effective destination for film production, as the country offers a wide range of suitable locations and the necessary infrastructure.

«It is 10 times cheaper to shoot a film here than in Hollywood and five times cheaper than in China,» Khojanazarov added.

Another major advantage is that the Dala Stage filming pavilion is located in Kaskelen, the Almaty region, which makes film production twice as cheap as it would be if it were shot in Almaty or Astana.

“If I am not mistaken, even a place for Jackie Chan to live has already been designated,” he added.

In conclusion, the MP highlighted that the film will be shot across many locations throughout Kazakhstan; however, the primary base will be located in Kaskelen.
