A New York woman died after falling into an uncovered manhole on a street in Midtown Manhattan, The Associated Press reported.

The incident happened late Monday near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and East 52nd Street. According to local police, 56-year-old Donike Gocaj fell into the hole shortly after parking her car next to it in an area located near luxury stores and several blocks from Trump Tower. Firefighters pulled her out, but she was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The hole’s cover was dislodged by a multi-axle truck about 12 minutes before the accident, Con Edison, a big utility company in New York, said after examining surveillance footage.

The city medical examiner’s office has yet to determine the official cause of death. However, some witnesses said the woman was shouting «I’m dying,» and that it appeared to be very hot inside the hole.

Con Edison is also known for providing steam from generating stations beneath the streets to heat and cool buildings and businesses in Manhattan.
