
Kazakhstan’s women’s volleyball team defeated Indonesia in straight sets in its second match of the AVC Women’s Nations Cup in the Philippines.
The Kazakh team secured a 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 victory, improving its position in Group B.
Strong response after opening match
Indonesia entered the match with momentum after upsetting Iran 3-1 in its tournament opener. However, Kazakhstan proved stronger in the decisive moments of each set.
Unlike its opening-match victory over Hong Kong, where it dropped one set, the team coached by Askar Shalkibekov completed a clean sweep against Indonesia.
Group standings tighten
Results in Group B so far:

Defending champion Vietnam currently leads the group, with Kazakhstan sitting second on set differential.

Kazakhstan’s next match is against Iran on June 8, followed by Lebanon on June 11. The team will close out group play against Vietnam on June 12 in what could determine the top spot in Group B.
Tournament format
The AVC Women’s Nations Cup, formerly known as the AVC Challenge Cup, is being held for the fifth time. Twelve teams are competing in two groups of six.
Following a single round-robin format, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. The remaining teams will compete in classification matches for fifth through 12th place.
The tournament concludes on June 14.
Looking to improve on recent finishes
Kazakhstan finished runner-up in the 2024 edition, falling to Vietnam 3-0 in the final in Manila.
In 2025, Kazakhstan narrowly missed the podium, losing 3-1 to Chinese Taipei in the bronze-medal match.
