
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović in Astana, marking the first such visit in the 20 years since the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries. At the conclusion of the meeting, they issued a joint statement outlining key areas of cooperation.
During the talks, Milatović praised the political reforms and economic modernization carried out in Kazakhstan through constitutional changes. In turn, Tokayev reaffirmed Astana’s support for Montenegro’s aspiration to join the EU as a full member and expressed confidence in the successful completion of the accession process.
Transport corridors, tourism and artificial intelligence
The two sides plan to boost bilateral trade and direct investment, with transport and logistics high on the agenda.
- Montenegro recognized Kazakhstan’s key role in developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) which is becoming a main safe corridor between Asia and Europe;
- The two sides agreed to expand direct air connectivity in order to boost bilateral tourism;
- A new area of cooperation was announced — joint projects in digital development and artificial intelligence.
The two sides also agreed to promote joint academic programs in higher education and science, and to coordinate their efforts at the United Nations to strengthen global stability.
