Organizers of the 2027 Bukhara Biennial have announced the dates for the event’s second edition, which will bring together renowned international artists and local artisans from across Uzbekistan.

The second contemporary art biennale will run from Sept. 3 to Nov. 21, 2027, in Bukhara. During that time, the historic city will once again serve as the venue for the international art festival, with artworks integrated into its centuries-old urban landscape.

Kulapat Yantrasast, founder and creative director of WHY Architecture, has been appointed as the event’s artistic director. He said the new edition aims to deepen the dialogue between people, cultural heritage and contemporary art.

«Uzbekistan claimed me on my first visit — not through its monuments, but through its people: their stories, their generosity and the quiet confidence of a culture that has always belonged to the world,» he said.

According to the organizers, one of the key themes of the upcoming biennial will be the relationship between art, the urban environment and sustainable development. The main theme of the event has not yet been announced.

«The idea of creative exchange remains at the core of the biennial. International artists will work closely with Uzbek artisans and craftspeople, creating works deeply connected to the history, traditions and cultural context of the place,» festival representatives said.

The first Bukhara Biennial was held from Sept. 5 to Nov. 20, 2025. The event featured more than 70 projects created by artists and artisans. According to official figures, approximately 1.8 million people attended the festival. Kazakhstan was represented by five participants.
