DR Congo vs. Uzbekistan 3-1
Goals: Eldor Shomurodov 10’; Yoane Wissa 68’ (P), Fiston Mayele 78’, Yoane Wissa 90+1′
Uzbekistan’s Eldor Shomurodov opened the scoring in the 10th minute, finishing Akmal Mozgovoy‘s assist after Uzbekistan had an earlier goal disallowed for offside.
DR Congo’s Yoane Wissa converted a penalty in the 68th minute after Abdukodir Khusanov committed a foul. Fiston Mayele scored in the 78th minute to complete the comeback for DR Congo. In the first minute of stoppage time, Wissa added his second goal to seal a 3-1 victory.
DR Congo’s Nathanaël Mbuku found the net in the 18th minute, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review for a foul in the build-up.
Following Croatia’s 2-1 victory over Ghana earlier in the day, Uzbekistan entered the match knowing that only a convincing win over DR Congo would preserve its mathematical chance of reaching the round of 32. DR Congo, meanwhile, qualified for the knockout stage with the victory.
The match was officiated by a refereeing team led by German referee Felix Zwayer.
