Vehicle production in Kazakhstan continues to grow. In May 2026, domestic manufacturers produced 41.7% more vehicles than a year earlier, while output for the first five months of the year rose 36.1%, the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU) reported.
According to Kazakhstan’s Bureau of National Statistics, 78,580 vehicles and related equipment were produced in Kazakhstan between January and May 2026. The total includes passenger cars, trucks, buses, special-purpose vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.
In May alone, manufacturers produced 15,178 vehicles, up 41.7% from May 2025. However, production declined by 16.3% compared with April.
Head of KAU Anar Makasheva believes localizing auto parts production is driving the industry’s growth.
«The development of automotive components production is not only a contribution to localization and the growth of the automotive industry, but also a driver for the sustainable growth of small and medium-sized businesses, the creation of new jobs, and the development of technological competencies,» Makasheva noted.
Passenger cars drive growth
Passenger cars accounted for the bulk of production. Over the first five months of the year, manufacturers in Kazakhstan produced:
- 73,122 passenger cars (+39.7%);
- 2,396 trucks (-13.1%);
- 1,281 buses (+35.3%);
- 297 special-purpose vehicles (-3.9%);
- 1,484 trailers and semi-trailers (+4.7%).
In monetary terms, the output of cars, trailers, and semi-trailers reached 932.9 billion tenge (about $1.9 billion), up 15.5% from a year earlier. The automotive industry accounted for 41.6% of Kazakhstan’s total mechanical engineering output.
