Calbee Inc., Japan’s leading snack maker, announced it would gradually resume colorful packaging for some of its products after previously switching to monochrome amid instability in the Middle East, which created challenges in procuring printing materials.
According to the release, the company will restore color to the front of the packaging for eight products, while the 330g and 700g versions of its Frugra fruit granola cereal will return to full-color packaging. Calbee is set to gradually roll out the colorful packages across Japan starting July 27.
The company said it would continue to monitor market developments and stressed that colorful packaging helps consumers identify products and make informed purchasing decisions.
In May, Calbee announced it would switch 14 products to monochrome packaging, with the revised packages hitting store shelves on May 25, to maintain a stable supply of products despite challenges stemming from the conflict in the Middle East. The remaining six product variants will continue to use monochrome packaging.
Separately, in late March, Japanese oil company INPEX Corp. signaled its readiness to redirect part of its oil production in Central Asia to the domestic market to strengthen the country’s energy security.
