Kindergartens in several regions of Uzbekistan have temporarily closed due to abnormal heat, with temperatures in some areas reaching 46°C and dust storms expected across the country in the coming days, Daryo.uz reported.

Preschools have been shut down in Karakalpakstan, as well as in certain districts of the Khorezm and Navoi regions. This followed a decision by local authorities, the Ministry of Preschool Education and Uzhydromet, Uzbekistan’s hydrometeorological service.

Depending on the region, preschools will remain closed until July 15 or July 18. If the heat intensifies, restrictions could be extended to other regions as well.

While the closures are meant to protect children’s health, they have created a serious problem for working parents. As officials focus on safety measures, many families are left scrambling to figure out childcare.

Since the government does not provide automatic paid leave or remote work options for such situations, parents usually rely on relatives or nannies, or take unpaid leave.
