Christopher Nolan’s new film, «The Odyssey,» starring Matt Damon, got off to a triumphant start at the global box office. The film grossed $264.1 million worldwide during its opening weekend, setting several box office records.
In the U.S., the film earned $124.5 million, marking the biggest opening weekend for any live-action film released in 2026. It also delivered the biggest opening of Matt Damon’s career as a leading actor, the highest opening ever for an R-rated film released by Universal Pictures and the third-biggest opening weekend of Nolan’s career, behind «The Dark Knight» and «The Dark Knight Rises.»
Outside the U.S. and Canada, «The Odyssey» grossed an additional $139.6 million, bringing its worldwide total to $264.1 million — surpassing its estimated production budget of approximately $250 million.
The film also achieved the biggest worldwide opening weekend of Christopher Nolan’s career, surpassing the previous record holder, «The Dark Knight Rises,» which grossed $249 million globally during its opening weekend in 2012.
Critics and audiences alike praised the film. It received an A CinemaScore, while its audience score on Rotten Tomatoes reached 96%, the highest of any Christopher Nolan film.
«The Odyssey» stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal and Himesh Patel. The film is an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem of the same name, following Odysseus on his long journey home after the Trojan War.
