A factory producing humanoid and educational robots will be built in Almaty, becoming the first overseas manufacturing facility for Chinese robotics company UBTECH Robotics.
Agreement signed in Shanghai
According to the Almaty akimat (mayor’s office), the agreement was signed during a business forum in Shanghai attended by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The document was signed by the Almaty akimat, Nero Robotics and UBTECH Robotics.
Almaty will become the first city outside China to host a UBTECH Robotics manufacturing facility. Construction is already underway, with operations expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Production and research hub
The project includes not only a manufacturing plant but also an engineering and research center. It also calls for introducing advanced robotics technologies and training Kazakh specialists in the field.
Plans to build the facility were first announced in November 2025 after the Almaty akimat, UBTECH Robotics and Nero Group signed a preliminary cooperation agreement.
Part of broader Kazakhstan-China cooperation
The announcement follows President Tokayev’s meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and executives from leading Chinese technology companies.
During the visit, Tokayev invited Chinese firms to participate in the development of Data Center Valley in Ekibastuz. He also proposed creating a cross-border logistics system where goods could move between Kazakhstan and China “as quickly as data travels over the internet.”
