An Almaty blogger has been fined after publishing posts describing his life with three wives.

According to the Almaty Police Department, officers identified Bauyrzhan Bakytzhanuly through social media. Police said his posts promoted a lifestyle that contradicts Kazakhstani law and generally accepted moral and ethical values. He was charged under Part 3-1 of Article 456-2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The offense carries a fine of 20 monthly calculation indexes (MCI), a standard unit used to calculate administrative fines in Kazakhstan.

«Social networks are a public information space. The dissemination of content promoting behavior that contradicts legal requirements and undermine respect for the institution of family and generally accepted moral and ethical standards entails liability as provided by law,» the agency said in a statement.

According to authorities, following a meeting with police, the blogger voluntarily deleted the disputed posts from his social media page.

However, posts about polygamy remain on his page, suggesting that only some of the content was removed.
