Prominent Kazakh content creator Dastan Mukhamedrakhim posted a video of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s favorite horse, a mare named Akzhan. The footage of the majestic animal out for a walk garnered hundreds of thousands of views and thousands of comments within just a few hours.
President’s favorite horse
Akzhan is a rare Akhal-Teke mare known for her grace and unusual light-colored coat.
«She was born in Astana and was personally named Akzhan by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Today, Akzhan has become a recognizable symbol of Kazakhstan’s rich equestrian heritage,» Mukhamedrakhim wrote in the caption.
‘Pure Soul’
The mare’s name means «Pure Soul» in Kazakh. Akzhan has already been featured in several international publications. An article about her in Rossiya Airlines’ in-flight magazine was titled «Heavenly Horse of the Great Steppe.» «Wings of China» also devoted a separate article to the mare, referring to her as the «Wings of the Steppe.» The publications note that she is descended from the renowned Akhal-Teke horses Ganatly and Tabys.
The authors also highlight the mare’s striking appearance. Akzhan has a rare Isabella coat, a pale cream color found in only around 3% of horses of the breed. The in-flight magazines describe her coat as literally «shimmering» in the sunlight, creating a soft, almost silvery glow.
In addition, the mare’s story has also been featured in “Tengri,” Air Astana’s in-flight magazine for international passengers.
