Trump invites Tokayev to G20 summit, Kazakh Foreign Ministry reveals details

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will take part in the 2026 G20 summit, scheduled for December in Miami, following an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry reported.

Tokayev’s upcoming participation in the summit became known following a meeting between Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S. Paul Kapur in Astana.

«The meeting also included an exchange of views on preparations for the G20 Summit, scheduled to take place in Miami in December 2026, which the Head of State will attend at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump,» the ministry said.

The Kazakh and U.S. sides also expressed their readiness to continue cooperation on shaping the substantive agenda for the upcoming high-level meeting.

During the meeting, Kosherbayev and Kapur discussed the development of the two countries’ strategic partnership. The U.S. side noted the potential for expanding cooperation in energy, critical minerals, emerging technologies, digitalization, transport and investment.

Separately, the parties raised Kazakhstan’s initiative to establish an International Water Organization as a specialized agency of the United Nations.

Kazakhstan’s foreign minister also briefed the U.S. official on Kazakhstan’s socioeconomic and political reforms. In particular, the parties discussed the upcoming election to the Kurultai, Kazakhstan’s new unicameral legislature, scheduled for Aug. 23.
