Tashkent International Airport has introduced shelters for stray cats as part of a national program promoting humane attitudes toward animals.

The stray cats now reside in charming kennels designed by students from the Tashkent University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. These kennels also provide animals with comfortable sleeping areas and food bowls, all sheltered under a roof.

«Cats are natural inhabitants of the urban environment, occupying their own ecological niche. Cats have always been part of the capital city’s airport. The value of these animals is obvious as they’re not just adorable creatures but also skilled hunters, controlling the population of mice and even rats. We have long considered the idea of building shelters for them, but ongoing construction at the airport in recent years delayed our plans. In collaboration with the Mushukkent project and Tashkent university’s students, we have designed and placed cat houses in safe locations where animals will not disrupt airport operations,» Uzbekistan Airports said in a statement.

The company hopes this care for stray animals will leave a positive impression on tourists arriving at the Tashkent airport.

The cat kennels are designed to be vandal-proof and fire-resistant. Additionally, they are equipped with a heating system for cold season and ventilation for hot weather.
