Kazakhstan’s oil exports fell to 15.3 million tons in January to March, down 21.5% year-on-year, according to Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov.

«Over the reporting period, oil and gas condensate production volume made 19.7 million tons, equal to 80.2% of the same period last year… Oil exports over three months totaled 15.3 million tons, equal to 78.5% of the same period in 2025. The forecast for 2026 is 76 million tons,» he said during the government session.

Akkenzhenov highlighted that commissioning of a sixth gas injection compressor at the Karachaganak field is underway. It is expected to maintain oil production at 10 to 11 million tons per year. The Ministry of Energy is in talks with major subsoil users on measures to increase oil production.

Furthermore, gas production totaled 13.6 billion cubic meters over the reporting period, down 15.1% year-on-year. In 2026, production is planned at 62.7 billion cubic meters.

Commercial gas production totaled 6.1 billion cubic meters, down 16.4% from the first quarter of 2025. The production forecast for 2026 stands at 27.3 billion cubic meters.

For comparison, domestic consumption of commercial gas totaled 8.8 billion cubic meters, up 8.6% compared with the January to March 2025 period. The forecast for 2026 stands at 22.6 billion cubic meters.

Against the backdrop of attacks on the infrastructure of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) and the burning of transformers at Tengiz (Kazakhstan’s largest oil field by production), oil production and export volumes in Kazakhstan have come under pressure since the fall of 2025.
