In 2025, China was the largest export market for nine of Kazakhstan’s regions, while Russia ranked first for seven. Italy, Switzerland and Uzbekistan were the top export destinations for the remaining regions.

The map below shows the country to which each region of Kazakhstan exported the greatest value of goods last year. The visual was compiled by Nurasyl Abdrazakuly, a Kazakh data scientist and a frequent collaborator on our infographics.

CHINA

  • Abai region — copper and other metal ores
  • Aktobe region — ferroalloys, crude oil and metal ores
  • East Kazakhstan region — zinc, copper and sunflower oil
  • Kostanay region — iron ore, animal feed and flaxseed
  • Kyzylorda region — crude oil
  • Pavlodar region — metal ores and ferroalloys
  • North Kazakhstan region — animal feed, rapeseed oil and flaxseed
  • Ulytau region — copper and zinc ores
  • Astana — uranium products and petroleum gases

RUSSIA

  • Akmola region — bearings, rapeseed and specialized equipment
  • Almaty region — ice cream, baked goods and confectionery
  • Zhambyl region — fertilizers and phosphorus products
  • Zhetisu region — batteries, malt and cosmetics
  • Karaganda region — steel rolled products and metal ores
  • Turkestan region — uranium products, melons and textiles
  • Almaty — petroleum gases, food products and electronics

ITALY

  • Atyrau region — crude oil
  • West Kazakhstan region — crude oil

SWITZERLAND

  • Mangystau region — crude oil

UZBEKISTAN

  • Shymkent — aluminum containers, sunflower oil, flour and wheat.
