Kazakhstan and Ethiopia will explore the possibility of establishing a hub for supplying Ethiopian tea, coffee and flowers to Kazakhstan and other markets. The agreement was reached by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during a meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, according to Akorda.
The two sides plan to send delegations to learn more about each other’s trade, economic and investment potential. The meeting also focused on expanding political dialogue and strengthening business ties.
Strengthening ties with Ethiopia
Tokayev said Kazakhstan is interested in strengthening relations with Ethiopia and other African countries. He noted that Kazakhstan’s embassy in Addis Ababa was among the country’s first permanent diplomatic missions on the continent. Kazakhstan also has observer status with the African Union.
Abiy Ahmed congratulated Tokayev on the recent elections to Kazakhstan’s Kurultai and highlighted the high level of mutual understanding between the two countries. He said Ethiopia would consider opening an embassy in Kazakhstan.
At the end of the meeting, Tokayev invited Abiy Ahmed to make an official visit to Kazakhstan.
