Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI assistant, has filed paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an initial public offering (IPO), the company announced on its website. It has thus moved ahead of its main competitor, OpenAI, in the race to go public.
Anthropic plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol ANT. The number of shares to be offered and the price have not yet been disclosed. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley will lead the IPO.
Anthropic also disclosed its financial results in the IPO prospectus. The company’s revenue rose from $41 million in 2023 to $16.2 billion in the first half of 2026. Over the same period, operating expenses increased 28-fold, from $592 million to $16.9 billion.
Meanwhile, the company’s operating loss fell more than threefold, from $2.1 billion in the first half of 2025 to $693 million in the same period of 2026.
How Anthropic moved ahead of OpenAI
In early 2026, Anthropic and OpenAI were also competing to be the first to go public. In the summer, the two companies filed confidential IPO paperwork with the SEC, a week apart.
At the time, media reports identified Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley as the leading contenders for key roles in the IPOs of both companies.
Bloomberg previously reported that going public ahead of OpenAI could give Anthropic an advantage. The company would be able to attract a broader pool of investors and raise additional capital.
