Uzbekistan Appoints First Female Ambassador
According to the press service of the Uzbekistani Senate, Feruza Makhmudova is the first female ambassador to represent this country abroad.
The candidate for the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the State of Israel was approved at the fifth plenary meeting of the upper chamber of the Uzbek parliament in Tashkent.
«Feruza Makhmudova would be known in history as the first female ambassador of independent Uzbekistan. While it’s a great honor, it is also a huge responsibility. She has been chosen to be appointed to this really important position because of high personal credibility as well as respect to women and acknowledgment of their role in the country. I hope in the future we’ll see many more similar acts of attention and acknowledgment because Uzbek women deserve that,» Tanzila Narbayeva, the chairman of the senate, stated.
Feruza Makhmudova was born in 1975. In 1996 she graduated from University of World Economy and Diplomacy where she studied International Relations. In 2009 she was awarded a master’s degree by the German Eberhard Karls University. Since then, she has been working as the head of the Main Department for the bilateral cooperation of the Uzbekistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Currently, Uzbekistan has diplomatic relations with more than 130 countries.
