Consumers in Kazakhstan Are Still Prone to Buy New Cars in 2020

The average new car price has risen by 14.7%

According to KazAvtoProm, the automotive industry association of Kazakhstan, despite the pandemic, the car market in Kazakhstan is hot and has archived 313.4 billion tenge ($756.8 million) in revenue during the first half of the year. In total, 35,086 new passenger and commercial vehicles were sold there. 

The average new car price is about 10.3 million tenge ($24873), which is 14.7% higher than last year. The most affordable cars on the local market are those that were assembled in Kazakhstan with the price in 7.6 million tenge ($18353) on average.

The same indicator for imported cars is about 13.2 million tenge ($31877). A significant part of consumers (10088 or 28.8%) has chosen models that cost no more than five million tenge ($12074). Last year this segment was a little bit bigger – 29.2%.

In the price band from five to seven million tenge 7538 cars (21.5%) were sold. This segment has risen by 2.9%. Another 5727 consumers (16.3%) have preferred cars in the price range of seven to ten million tenge with an increasing tally in the segment by 2.5%.

The top segment of business (up to $36223) and premium cars (above that sum) are 23.4% (8195) and 10.1% (3538) respectively. The total share of cars with a price of more than $24000 has declined by 4.9% but still is a significant part of the market (33.5%).

Almost all most popular cars, excluding Ravon R4 and Ravon R2 (both made in Uzbekistan), are assembled in Kazakhstan. The absolute leader is Lada Granta from Ust-Kamenogorsk with the cheapest price of 2.8 million tenge ($6761) which is followed by Lada 4×4 ($8210), Ravon Nexia ($8935), Ravon R4 ($9659), Chevrolet Cobalt ($9659), Chevrolet Niva ($10142), Lada Vesta ($10625),  Lada Largus ($11108), Lada XRAY ($1108) and Ravon R2 ($12074). 

The top-10 of most expensive cars in Kazakhstan is following: Mercedes-Benz G-Class ($265642), Mercedes-Benz S-Class ($236663), Porsche 911 Turbo ($171460), Audi A7/А8 ($149725), Lexus LS ($140548),  Porsche  Panamera ($129198), Genesis G90 ($129198), Porsche Cayenne ($112535), Jaguar I-PACE ($112535) and BMW 8 Series ($111328).
