Current Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov said that he is ready for the new composition of the cabinet after the parliamentary elections.

He voted at poll #111 and talked to journalists. Smailov noted that the constitution requires the cabinet to step down after the parliamentary elections.

«We are going to resign and will stay in office until the new cabinet is formed. It’s up to the president and the new parliament who is going to be the new prime minister. Of course, my colleagues and I are ready for any scenario,» Smailov stated.

When journalists asked him to assess the cabinet’s work, he said that even though 2022 was tough for the country, the cabinet managed to get real economic growth of 3.2%. Smailov also noted that Kazakhstan has improved its sovereign rating. If Smailov is assigned as a prime minister once again, he will focus on inflation. Smailov says that inflation must be cut by 50%.

On March 19, 2023, Kazakhstan’s citizens chose deputies of the Mazhilis and Maslikhats (local assemblies). According to the government, there were 10,146 voting stations available for voters within the country and 18 polls abroad.
