The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan has signed a memorandum with Terminals Holding from the UAE on the joint development of the international airport in Astana into a regional multimodal hub. Multimodal transportation is the transportation of goods under one contract but performed by at least two different modes of transport, according to the press service of the ministry.

Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev met with Suhail Al Mazroui, head of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates (the UAE) and CEO of Terminals Holding, who arrived in Kazakhstan along with an official delegation from the Middle Eastern country.

Terminals Holding is one of the leading providers of airport and aviation services. The company provides services to customers across the most promising markets in Asia and Africa. Terminals Holding, which is the sister company of AD Ports Group (formerly Abu Dhabi Ports Company), also has experience in the construction, operation and management of international airports.

In January of this year, it became known that KazMunayGas and AD Ports Group would create a joint venture to transport oil and other cargo across the Caspian Sea. The two companies concluded a strategic partnership agreement during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to the UAE. At the time, both KMG and AD Ports Group expressed their interest in cooperation in the development of the marine fleet and coastal infrastructure in the Caspian and Black Seas.

AD Ports Group is the exclusive developer and regulator of ports and related infrastructure in Abu Dhabi. The company owns and operates eleven ports and terminals in the UAE and Guinea. The port cluster is represented by the ports of Abu Dhabi, Zayed, Khalifa, Musaffah, Muharraq and Sila, among others.
