The official inauguration of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan was held in the capital city of Tashkent. The ceremony was held at a joint meeting of the two chambers of the Uzbek parliament Oliy Majlis.

The newly elected president of Uzbekistan has taken an oath on the Quran and the Constitution of Uzbekistan. In his inaugural speech, President Mirziyoyev underlined that, despite the disagreements between different political parties in the country, all of them are united by the interests of the nation.

«For me personally, to be elected President of the Republic of Uzbekistan is a huge support to the political course we have pursued in the spheres of human rights and freedoms, the interests of the people,» said Mirziyoyev during the ceremony.

The president called for mobilization to fulfill ambitious plans that the nation is currently enacting.

«Those who think that mobilization is no longer needed after the elections are wrong. The real mobilization is yet to be started. If we are not delivering all those big plans and programs that the people want us to deliver, who would come and do so for us?» the president said.

Mirziyoyev also highlighted that the government should take into account all the risks, obstacles and pitfalls that may be in its path and be prepared to take necessary measures to ensure the reforms are sustainable and effective.

Last Sunday, Uzbekistan held early presidential elections, which followed the nationwide referendum that approved a set of amendments to the country’s constitution. The amendments have extended the presidential term from five to seven years, although one person can’t serve more than two presidential terms. As a result of the referendum, the previous terms of Mirziyoyev were reset to zero.

According to the results of the early elections, Mirziyoyev won 87.05% of the votes. His candidacy was nominated by two political parties: the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party.
