Cyprus to open its embassy in Kazakhstan

The government of Cyprus has decided to establish an embassy in Kazakhstan because it acknowledges the importance of the region of Central Asia, the TASS news agency reported, citing Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the official representative of the government of Cyprus.

Why has Cyprus decided to open its embassy in Kazakhstan? According to Letymbiotis, the government of Cyprus views Central Asia as a very important part of its foreign policy.

«Taking into consideration our desire to have a voice in and play a role in all those events in the region that directly or indirectly affect our interests, the diplomatic presence of Cyprus in Kazakhstan is going to have a high level of importance. Given political reasons and the rebounding economy of Cyprus the presence of Cyprus in Central Asia must be strengthened,» he said.

The context. In December 2023, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu and Constantinos Kombos, minister of foreign affairs of Cyprus discussed the bilateral relations. At the meeting, Kombos said that the Cyprus embassy in Astana would be opened next year.
