Digital Ministry plans to monitor emissions in real time in Kazakhstan

Bagdat Musin, minister of digital development, innovations and the aerospace industry, has announced the upcoming arrival of a new surveillance system, designed to monitor violations of environmental legislation. All companies whose activities are linked with the emission of ozone-destroying substances are expected to be enrolled in this new automated system of monitoring starting this year, Zakon.kz reported.

A wide range of enterprises such as thermal power plants, refineries and metallurgic plants will be obliged to install equipment specially designed to gauge the number of emissions and transfer this data to a regulatory authority online.

«It’s like the Segrek surveillance system on our roads. The new automated system will also track violations but in the sphere of the environment. Several Kazakhstani IT companies have been involved in the project. They managed to launch the production of necessary sensors that are made up of 80% of Kazakhstani-produced components. I mean, we as a country produce this equipment on our own; we don’t buy it abroad. Previously, we had only expensive equipment from Honeywell. Now we can produce similar devices here in Kazakhstan,» Informburo reported, citing the minister.

As Musin noted, Kazakhstan is ranked eighth in terms of online services in the world. In 2023, the government rendered about 50 million services online, while 92% of all public services are available to Kazakhstanis from the comfort of their homes.
