UN institution rates high Kazakhstan’s efforts in the sphere of digitalization pointing out low spendings on software

The UN World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has placed Kazakhstan in the 81st position in its Global Innovation Index and third among Central and South Asia after India and Iran. There are 132 countries on the index.  Last year, Kazakhstan was 83rd.

The country was prized for its government’s online services (8th position in the rating), E-participation (15th position), females employed with advanced degrees (32nd), QS university ranking (33rd position), tertiary enrolment (35th) and high-tech exports (36th position).

On the other hand, Kazakhstan’s efforts weren’t as impressive in the field of software spending x`(124th position), state of cluster development (118th), university-industry R&D collaboration (117th), venture capital (98th) and GERD financed by abroad (88th position).

«Kazakhstan (81st) takes over 3rd position within the region, gaining two ranks and displacing Uzbekistan to 4th, which retains its 82nd position overall. Only Kazakhstan and Nepal (108th) within the region (Central and Southern Asia) go up in the rankings,» the report said.

Switzerland has been recognized as the most innovative country, followed by Sweden, the U.S., the U.K., Singapore, Finland, Germany, Denmark and South Korea.

Concerning CIS member states, Russia has been ranked 51st, Moldova – 60th, Armenia – 72nd, Belarus – 80th, Uzbekistan – 82nd, Kyrgyzstan – 106th and Tajikistan – 111th.
