The TEDx project is set to be re-launched in Almaty. The upcoming conference, the first since 2020, will center on the history of Almaty and Kazakhstan’s independence.
Founded in 2009 as a branch of the global TED Foundation, the TEDx project aims to share unique ideas, experiences and knowledge through curated talks. Hosting a TEDx event requires obtaining a TED license and these conferences are now held in 3,000 cities worldwide. Almaty was one of the first cities to embrace this new lecture format 15 years ago, quickly becoming a popular platform, with many well-known journalists and public figures participating over the years.
After four years, TEDx will once again provide a platform for Kazakhstani speakers in Almaty, following a period when events were held exclusively in Astana. The TEDxAlmaty 2024 conference is scheduled for Oct. 25, where 12 speakers will explore the theme «A Path Through the Years,» focusing on Almaty’s thousand-year history and 33 years of Kazakhstan’s independence.
«We will look at Almaty as a reflection of the historical transformations, cultural changes and personal stories of its residents. We will talk about the role of women in the modern world, how cultural heritage resonates with innovation and how the vision of the city’s future is already influencing our present,» said Sholpan Makhmudova, the conference curator.
Registration for the event is now open on the TEDxAlmaty project website.
