Abdukodir Khusanov, an Uzbek professional soccer player, has become the first footballer from Uzbekistan and Central Asia as a whole to play in the English Premier League for Manchester City.

Twenty-year-old Khusanov started his football career in the Uzbek club Bunyodkor and in 2022 transferred to the Belarusian FC Energetik-BGU Minsk. In 2023, Khusanov started playing for French Lens. This fall, there were rumors that some English football clubs were interested in the Uzbek player.

Now, it is clear that Khusanov is going to play for Manchester City, as negotiations between the player and the club have succeeded and the legionnaire is preparing for a medical check-up, according to Fabrizio Romano, an Italian sports journalist.

The contract is going to last until 2029 and might be extended if both sides agree. Some Uzbek media outlets reported that the British paid €40 million for the transfer, which means that Khusanov is one of the most highly valued players in Central Asia. Previously, similar contracts were signed with players from Japan and South Korea.
