Chinese startup to manufacture anthropomorphic robots in Kazakhstan

Chinese AgiBot plans to establish a joint venture in Kazakhstan to manufacture robots and develop artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development reported.
The agreement was signed at the Digital Almaty 2025 forum between the Ministry of Digital Development, the Ewpartners private investment company, AgiBot representatives and Qazaqstan Investment Corporation, a subsidiary of the state-owned Baiterek holding.
AgiBot, a Chinese startup, was founded in February 2023 by former Huawei employee Peng Zhihui. The company specializes in manufacturing anthropomorphic robots designed for various tasks, including household and industrial applications. In December 2024, AgiBot’s Shanghai facility produced 1,000 robots.
This agreement gives Kazakhstan the opportunity to become the first Central Asian nation to localize robot manufacturing. AgiBot, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Development, is expected to establish a «data factory» for robot and robotic system training within the newly formed partnership.
«I would like to highlight that our partnership involves localizing robot production within Kazakhstan. This will not only help us launch an enterprise in one of the most promising sectors of machine engineering but also expand expertise in the field and create a domestic robotics competence center,» said Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Digital Development.
The initiative will be financed by Ewpartners and Qazaqstan Investment Corporation. The plan for the near future is to establish a joint R&D center and an exhibition of AgiBot’s robot prototypes at the Alem AI international AI center in Astana. On top of that, the company plans to collaborate with Kazakhstani universities, conduct research projects and teach students how to assemble robots.
Qazaqstan Investment Corporation is a venture fund established in 2007, focusing on the development of direct investment infrastructure and venture financing in Kazakhstan.
Ewpartners is a private investment company supported by major sovereign wealth funds from Persian Gulf countries and international financial investors.
