Scientists analyzed DNA believed to be Adolf Hitler’s and drew conclusions about his possible genetic conditions, according to a documentary released by Britain’s Channel 4.

Fabric with Hitler’s blood stains

The analysis was conducted using fabric taken from a sofa reportedly used by Hitler in his bunker, The Times reported. The findings have not been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, but the newspaper cited several conclusions described by the researchers involved.

According to what The Times called the study’s main conclusion, Hitler may have suffered from Kallmann syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that can prevent puberty and the development of reproductive organs.

If Hitler had seen the results

One of the study’s lead researchers, Turi King, said that if Hitler had seen the results of his genetic analysis, he would have «sent himself to the gas chambers,» underscoring how the findings would have conflicted with Nazi ideology.

The researchers also concluded that Hitler was ethnically Austrian German and found no evidence of Jewish ancestry.

Notably, scientists said Hitler belonged to a genetic group associated with a higher risk of conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. However, they emphasized that DNA analysis alone cannot confirm whether he actually had any of those conditions.
