Kazakhstan has become one of the top three countries for the Russian messaging app Max outside of Russia. Users are actively downloading the app to stay in touch with relatives and friends in Russia.
According to Izvestia, Kazakhstan is among the top three countries by number of registrations, following Uzbekistan and Belarus. Currently, around 7 million foreign citizens use the messenger, 90% of whom are CIS residents.
Uzbekistan leads the way with 2.3 million users. Belarus ranks second, followed by Kazakhstan with 1.2 million registrations. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan round out the top five.
Users outside of Russia make approximately 1.5 million calls and send over 20 million messages daily. Since the beginning of the year, this figure has exceeded 1 billion messages and 220 million calls.
The messenger itself said that the service’s capabilities are gradually expanding. In March, it opened access to calls and messages to users in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
Max’s popularity is directly linked to what is happening to other messengers in the country. Last month, for example, Russian authorities began slowing down Telegram. Telegram users in Russia have reported that some features have been disabled and that the overall service has been unstable since August 2025.
