Kazakhstan’s military in global rankings: 300,000 personnel and $5.8 billion budget

Kazakhstan ranked 58th out of 145 countries in the 2026 Global Firepower Military Strength Ranking.
The index estimates the size of a country’s armed forces, the amount of military equipment, air power, financial resources, and mobilization capacity.
According to the report, Kazakhstan’s total military personnel numbers around 300,000, comprising 110,000 active personnel, 135,000 reserve personnel, and 55,000 paramilitary personnel.
The country’s defense budget was estimated at $5.8 billion, ranking Kazakhstan 54th globally.
The ranking also covers data on the armament. Kazakhstan has 168 aircraft, including 37 fighters, 13 attack aircraft and 72 helicopters. Land forces possess 353 tanks, 17,460 vehicles and 287 multiple-launch rocket systems.
Kazakhstan is among the world’s largest countries for area, ranking 9th.
Kazakhstan scored 1.0433 in Global Firepower’s PowerIndex. The methodology used by Global Firepower follows an inverse system: the closer the score is to zero, the stronger the country’s perceived military capability.
The U.S., Russia, China, India and South Korea top the ranking.
