Unified script: Erdogan pushes for a common Turkic alphabet

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has urged greater adoption of a common Turkic alphabet, alongside closer cooperation in science, education, and artificial intelligence. He made the remarks at an informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Turkestan, Kazakhstan.
«It is essential to expand the use of the 34-letter Turkic alphabet and to support scientific and educational initiatives in participating countries. The development of artificial intelligence technologies that support the languages and cultural heritage of the Turkic world is of particular importance,» Erdogan said.
Notably, the Turkic countries agreed to adopt a 34-letter unified Latin-based alphabet for Turkic languages at the third session of the commission established by the OTS, held in Baku in September 2024.

Erdogan also stressed the need to deepen coordination among member states in response to regional and global crises.
«The crises in our immediate neighborhood demonstrate the importance of solidarity and coordination. It is necessary to strengthen consultation and cooperation mechanisms between countries,» he said.
The Turkish president also expressed gratitude to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the warm reception in Astana and Turkestan.
