Starting May 25, 2026, vehicle registration regulations in Kazakhstan will be changed. The new rules will allow the transfer of existing registration plates to relatives of vehicle owners, and the list of premium plate combinations will be officially expanded, Kolesa.kz reported.

The plates will be allowed for transfer to:

  • government bodies and diplomatic missions;
  • close relatives of the former owner;
  • heirs of the vehicle owner.

The list of relatives includes parents, children, spouses, brothers and sisters, grandparents and grandchildren, as well as adoptive parents and adopted children.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs will also expand the list of premium plate combinations, adding patterns such as 101, 202, 303, 404, 505, 717, 808 and 909 — along with other repeated or symmetrical digit sequences.

Furthermore, such plates may feature combinations with identical letters. A special fee is not introduced for symmetrical letter combinations.

Premium plate fees

The fee for new premium digit combinations will be 15 monthly calculation indexes (MCI) — approximately $138.80 in 2026. If the plate also includes matching letters, the price rises to 72 MCI, or roughly $666.
