An unusual food trend emerged in Malaysia, with locals began flocking to the Kajang Prison for its famous curry puffs.
The trend began with a viral Threads post in which a user asked Malaysia’s Prison Department whether it was possible to visit a prison facility to buy curry puffs, which had suddenly gone viral on social media. Inmates prepare the pastries as part of a prison work program, which are then sold at a prison shop.

The prison service’s official account later responded in a playful manner.
«If the curry puffs really are that tasty, please do not promote them too heavily. We are afraid there may not be enough for everyone,» the department joked.

It turned out that visitors only had to tell security they were there to buy signature mutton puffs at Prismart.

In addition to curry puffs, the shop sells other products made by inmates, including batik fabrics, textiles and souvenirs.
