The much-discussed horror movie «Backrooms,» based on a single viral image that became the foundation of an entire internet universe, continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Kursiv LifeStyle examines how the debut feature from a 20-year-old director quickly broke A24 records after its release.

According to Variety, the film has earned more than $200 million worldwide, with total box office takings estimated at $212 million. The film has already surpassed the studio’s previous record holder, «Marty Supreme.» «Backrooms» reached these milestones in just 10 days, compared with nearly half a year for Timothée Chalamet’s film, which totaled $191 million.

Following a strong opening, «Backrooms» is already being described as one of the studio’s most profitable projects. With a production budget of $10 million, the film paid off many times over in its opening weeks, despite a significant drop in box office receipts in its second weekend.

According to Deadline, A24 is already considering a sequel following the film’s phenomenal opening.

The sequel has not yet been greenlit. Kane Parsons is reportedly seeking a co-writer to develop the project. A24 holds development rights to the franchise; however, the film is currently in early stages, with no cast attached and no tentative release date.
