The experienced Colombians opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 2-1 victory over World Cup newcomers Uzbekistan at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City at the first round of the group stage.

Daniel Muñoz opened the scoring in the 40th minute, while Luis Díaz doubled Colombia’s advantage in the 65th minute and Jaminton Campaz sealed the win in the 90th+9 minute.

Abbosbek Fayzullaev scored Uzbekistan’s only goal in the 60th minute.

The match was officiated by English referee Anthony Taylor.

Elsewhere on Matchday 7, Portugal faced DR Congo, England took on Croatia, and Ghana played Panama.
