Kazakhstan is gradually expanding its automotive component production. The country already manufactures batteries, tires and multimedia systems, with more components expected to be added in the coming years.

What Kazakhstan already produces

According to AutoReport, citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Construction, the country’s manufacturers produced the following in 2025:

  • 2.9 million car batteries (+1.4%);
  • 527,700 tires (up 2.8 times);
  • About 40,700 multimedia systems (up sevenfold);
  • About 14,500 car seats.

Notably, a car mat production was established in Almaty.

Expanding domestic production

Over the next three years, the government plans to launch production of additional automotive components, including HVAC systems, brake and fuel pipes, interior plastic parts, and floor coverings.

In addition, Astana Motors is preparing to construct an aluminum wheel production facility in partnership with U.S.-based Open Element and South Korea’s Hands Corporation.

Another production project—a vehicle wire harness manufacturing facility—is expected to commence operations in late 2026. Initially, the new wire harnesses will be installed in Kia Sportage SUVs, followed by Hyundai Tucson SUVs starting in 2027. In the future, the facility plans to supply wire harnesses to Chinese automakers as well.

Why it matters

The more automotive components are produced domestically, the higher the local content in vehicle assembly. This reduces reliance on imported parts and could ultimately make vehicles more affordable for buyers.
