Astana sets another temperature record amid heatwave

The summer heat set a new temperature record for July 14 in Astana, Kazakhstan’s national hydrometeorological service, Kazhydromet, reported.

According to meteorologists, the previous record high for July 14 was 35.3°C, set in 1992. This year, temperatures began rising the day before and peaked at 39.5°C on July 14, surpassing the previous record by more than 4°C.

Second summer record

Astana has already set another temperature record this summer. On June 23, the temperature reached 36.8°C, breaking the previous record for that date by 0.4°C.

The previous June 23 record of 36.4°C was set in 1941.

What will the weather be like in Astana in the coming days?

  • On July 15, Kazakhstan’s capital is expected to see partly cloudy skies, intermittent rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds, with daytime temperatures of 34°C to 36°C.
  • On July 16, cloudy conditions, showers, hail and stronger winds are forecast. Daytime temperatures will range from 30°C to 32°C.
  • On July 17, dry weather is expected to return, with daytime temperatures reaching 31°C to 33°C.
