Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have welcomed their fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, born Sunday, The Associated Press reported.
The couple announced the news in a joint statement, saying both mother and baby are healthy and that their three older children — Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel — are excited to meet their new brother.
The birth is historically significant, marking the first time in more than 150 years that a sitting U.S. vice president has welcomed a child while in office. According to the White House Historical Association, the last such event occurred in 1870, during the vice presidency of Schuyler Colfax.
The Vances thanked the medical staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House medical team for their care.
JD Vance has frequently raised concerns about declining U.S. birth rates and has encouraged policies that support larger families. In a recent interview, Usha Vance said the couple had already been considering expanding their family, and that conversations with Erika Kirk, widow of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, were among the factors that influenced their decision.
