Police in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region have deployed an artificial intelligence-powered robot dog for the first time.
According to Polisia.kz, the technology has already delivered results. Over a two-day period, the robot helped police identify four people wanted or sought by authorities during large public gatherings.
The robot dog was deployed during Metallurgist’s Day celebrations in Balkhash and Temirtau on July 17-18.
More than 115,000 people attended the events. To maintain public safety, police introduced heightened security measures and deployed more than 1,000 officers.
Integrated with police databases, the robot dog can recognize faces in real time within an officer’s field of view, allowing authorities to identify wanted individuals more quickly and help prevent potential offenses.
During the celebrations, the robot helped locate:
- An individual with unpaid child support obligations.
- Two people with outstanding government debts.
- A previously convicted man who violated a court-ordered stay-at-home restriction.
Police said appropriate legal action was taken against all four individuals.
Officers also reunited 87 children, ages 3 to 17, who became separated from their parents during the celebrations.
Police said the introduction of robotic technologies marks another step in the digital transformation of Kazakhstan’s law enforcement agencies. According to the ministry, such systems can improve the effectiveness of policing at large public events and enhance public safety.
