While many people rely on apps to reduce their screen time, others are using artificial intelligence to bring back a paper-based morning routine. Developer Ryan Doyle demonstrated how he uses OpenAI Codex to generate a personalized newspaper containing the information he wants to see each day.
AI compiles and prints a daily digest
Every morning, Codex automatically creates a short, multi-page edition without an endless social media feed, advertisements or notifications. The customized digest includes unread messages, the day’s calendar, a surf forecast, the weather and top news headlines.
Once the layout is complete, the AI sends it directly to a printer, leaving Doyle to simply pick up the latest «edition» from the output tray.

According to Doyle, he wanted to stop beginning every morning by looking at his phone. Rather than opening social media and getting pulled into endless doomscrolling, he chose to receive only the information that is most relevant to him.
The project quickly drew attention online. Many commenters joked that «Gen Z has reinvented the newspaper,» while others praised the concept as a practical way to stay informed without the distractions of constant notifications and infinite scrolling.
Several users said they were inspired to create their own AI-generated morning newspapers.
