Volkswagen returns to Kazakhstan, launches Jetta as a budget brand

Volkswagen is officially returning to the Kazakhstani market, introducing a new brand for buyers: Jetta. Seven models were unveiled at the launch, ranging from an affordable sedan priced at 9 million tenge ($19,502) to a large crossover priced at 25.6 million tenge ($55,473).
Official sales of new vehicles will begin on Aug. 27 through the company’s distributor, Orbis Auto. The launch will be supported by a dealer and service network that will initially include eight centers in seven cities: Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, Kostanay, Uralsk, Aktau and Atyrau.
For Kazakhstan, the relaunch of Volkswagen is particularly interesting, as local car enthusiasts have long been familiar with the brand. In the 1990s, the Golf, Jetta and Passat were widely imported from Europe, and the Passat B3 remains a trusted, popular workhorse outside the major cities.
Volkswagen brings four models
The new lineup is noticeably different from the Volkswagen many are accustomed to. The brand’s most affordable model is the Bora sedan, starting at 12.9 million tenge. Next comes the Passat at 19 million tenge, folllowed by the Tayron and Talagon crossovers, priced from 17 million and 25.6 million tenge, respectively.

The Bora is equipped with a 1.5-liter TSI engine producing 160 hp and a DSG automatic transmission. The Passat and Tayron have a 2.0-liter TSI engine producing 220 hp, and higher-end Tayron models offer 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

The Talagon is a true giant, measuring over five meters in length. The crossover is equipped with a 2.0-liter TSI engine producing 272 hp, all-wheel drive, and seating for six or seven passengers.

The Jetta enters a more affordable segment
The second part of the launch is more interesting in terms of pricing. Jetta, in this case, is not the name of a separate model but a standalone brand. It’s being introduced in Kazakhstan with three models: the VA7 sedan and the VS7 and VS8 crossovers, priced from 9 million, 9.8 million and 11 million tenge, respectively.
All three share a familiar Volkswagen platform. The VA7 has a 1.4-liter TSI engine producing 150 hp and a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The VS7 and VS8 have the same engine paired with a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission.

The Jetta is clearly aimed at mass-market buyers. For example, the VS7 comes standard with a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras, leather upholstery and heated front seats. The VS8 comes with a 14.6-inch central display, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and up to nine airbags.

The cars have been adapted for Kazakhstan
According to Orbis Auto, the cars have been adapted to local conditions. Features include heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and additional FM antennas.
Official Volkswagen and Jetta models come with a three-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first. Genuine parts and official service are also included.
All seven models are manufactured at FAW-Volkswagen facilities in China. The company emphasizes that production is integrated into Volkswagen’s global system and meets corporate quality standards.
For the Kazakhstani market, this is the main difference between the brand’s current return and the era when Passat and Golf models were imported from Germany under their own power.
By 2030, Orbis Auto expects to expand its official Volkswagen and Jetta network in Kazakhstan to 22 centers.
