New island surfaces in Caspian Sea
A new island has emerged in the northern Caspian Sea. Kursiv LifeStyle looks at where it is located and why new stretches of dry land are appearing in the body of water.
The island was discovered amid a decline in the Caspian Sea’s water level, Lada.kz reported, citing Yerbolat Mukhashov, founder of Caspian Holiday. The newly emerged island of Rybachiy lies about 500 meters east of the island of Svyatoy and 30 kilometers from the village of Bautino.
Mukhashov said that over the past four to five years, new islands have begun to emerge in the northern Caspian Sea due to declining water levels. They have been recorded in an area inhabited by Caspian seals.
The new island was filmed from a bird’s-eye view. According to Lada.kz, the islands in this part of the Caspian Sea are home to wolves, wild boars and badgers, while various fish species can be found in the surrounding coastal waters.
Previously, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that a pair of «golden shoes» dating back approximately 1,500 years was discovered in the grave of a noblewoman on the shores of the Caspian Sea. The find was made at the Karakabak necropolis on the Mangyshlak Peninsula.
